80% Lower & Frame FAQs

Lower & Frame FAQs

Q: May I lawfully make a firearm for my own personal use, provided it is not being made for resale?

A: (From the ATF Website): "Firearms may be lawfully made by persons who do not hold a manufacturer's license under the GCA provided they are not for sale or distribution and the maker is not prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms. However, a person is prohibited from assembling a non-sporting semiautomatic rifle or shotgun from 10 or more imported parts, as set forth in regulations in 27 C.F.R. 478.39. In addition, the making of an NFA firearm requires a tax payment and advance approval by ATF."

Q: Do 80% lower receivers or frames require transfer or registration through an FFL?

A: No. These are do-it-yourself products that requires special skills and tools to complete the fire control pocket, drill the appropriate pin holes for the trigger assembly, etc. There are reliable videos on YouTube and various gunsmith sites demonstrating the procedures.

Q: Is it legal to assemble a firearm from commercially available parts kits that can be purchased via internet or shotgun news? (From the ATF website: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/firearms-technology.html)

A: "For your information, per provisions of the Gun Control Act (GCA) of 1968, 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, an unlicensed individual may make a firearm as defined in the GCA for his own personal use, but not for sale or distribution." For further information on rulings and classifications go to the ATF Firearms website.

Q: What is your return policy?

A: Due to the nature of 80 percent parts such as 80 percent lowers, jigs, tools etc. all sales are final. If you feel the product has a manufactures defect please contact the manufacture of the product for information.

The jig is made well; I like the steel guides for the drilling and the markings on the jig for reference though you will need to accurately calculate the actual measurements yourself as they can be off a couple of hundredths in the depth from the top of the metal plates. The one thing that is really lacking is the placement of the plates on the top of the jig. The plates have 6 slotted holes in them and lining them up on the top of the jig is not easy or accurate without some serious measuring and checking. the top plates are straight off the laser or plasma cutter and rough to say the least so be ready for some fine filing before using.
