All Browning BAR rifles produced prior to 1979 are correctly referred to as The Browning BAR Rifle Type 1. All Browning BAR Rifles produced between 1979 and 1992 are correctly referred to as The Browning BAR Rifle Type 2. All BAR Rifles produced from 1993 through the present are correctly referred to as The Browning BAR Safari, The Browning Mark II (MKII) BAR, and The Browning BAR Lightweight. We wish not to confuse you any further, but in 2004 Browning also introduced the NEW!! Browning BAR LongTrac and Browning BAR ShortTrac Rifles.
