There are techniques to avoid catching your thumb with the lifter when loading a shotgun. But why? With this simple part swap out the lifter on your Beretta 1301 will always stay down out of the way of your thumb as you are loading. Not only do you eliminate the possibility of a painful pinch, you also eliminate a potential failure mode. If you accidently lift up on the bolt release with shells in the magazine it will try to feed 2 rounds onto the lifter. This will result in the 2nd shell being caught by the shell stop and it will tie the gun up completely until you clear it. The pro-style lifter prevents this from happening. I think Beretta should install these lifters in all of their shotguns.
