FN 509 Flat Trigger Assembly

While the FN factory hinged trigger isn't bad, it takes a bit to get used to and isn't for everybody. This trigger fixes the problem. Granted it is not a simple drop in procedure but when installed successfully it is amazing!

Obviously, installation was a breezzzz, but seriously, this is what should be installed on the model instead of trigger that comes with, the break is crisper, and the reset shorter. Just what the doctor ordered. Apex is in for some competition here as the price vs. performance cant be beat.

I have been working to modify and improve my 509C for a while and found this OEM part available through Midwest. Based on it being an OEM part, I assumed it would be a direct drop-in into any 509 platform pistol--which it is. This particular product is listed as a 509 "Edge" model, but it is exactly the same as the other flat-face OEM trigger listed on Midwest. This trigger is made of polymer, as opposed to the aluminum trigger from Apex Tactical; This model is, however, over $100 cheaper. I have not used an Apex trigger, but I believe this gets you 90% of the same end result as an Apex trigger with the only difference being the material used. In my case, I was able to do the install at home in 45 minutes or less with a regular hammer and a nail setter (stouter and takes the hammer better than a small punch) once I was comfortable hitting it as hard as I had to. I also installed the MCarbo spring kit and ShootingSight striker. My end result was a much smoother trigger takeup with a very clean 90-degree break at about 4.5 lbs. I do like the standard curved trigger, but thought I would try a flat trigger and see how much I could improve the 509 trigger. I would recommend it for anyone really trying to improve/tune it as much as possible, or if you prefer a flat trigger in general. For less than $40 and less than an hour of work, it is totally worth it.

I called FN America technical support and asked was this trigger(FN 509 Edge Flat Trigger Assembly) compatible with the FN 509 Tactical and they said yes. So I immediately bought one because the listing for the regular FN 509 flat face trigger is out of stock. However I wonder why there’s a price difference for these factory original flat face trigger assemblies if they are in fact the same. I will say that at least with my gun, it completely removed the gritty feeling that was present with my original curved trigger assembly. I also highly recommend that you buy a new locking block pin when installing this trigger assembly as instructed by FN America.
