Browning BBR History

The production of the Browning BBR rifle began in 1978 and was offered in the Long or Standard Action Calibers of .25-06 Rem, .270 Win, .30-06 Sprg, 7mm Rem Mag, .300 Win Mag, or .338 Win Mag and Short Action Calibers of .22-250 Rem., .243 Win, .257 Roberts, 7mm-08 Rem, or .308 Win. The production of the BBR bolt action rifle ended in 1984 when Browning introduced the A-Bolt.

In 1976, Browning re-standardized its serial number identification.

  1. Serial Number beginning with 01001 at the start of each year.
  2. Date of Manufacture is a two digit code: Z=1, Y=2, X=3, W=4, V=5, T=6, R=7, P=8, N=9, M=0

This would be an BBR rifle manufactured in 1981 with the serial number 01001.
