Description: Wilson Combat 1911 5" Full Size Recoil Spring, 20lb. Full-Size 5" 10mm shooting target ammunition or .45 ACP shooting +P JHP self-defense ammunition with a power factor of 180,000 to 200,000 (Velocity x Bullet Weight = Power Factor)

Wilson Combat Heavy-Duty Recoil Springs are made combat tough to repeatedly take a pounding yet show remarkably consistent performance every time a round is fired.
Keeping a fresh recoil spring in your pistol will dramatically reduce the pounding your slide and frame receive.
HOW TO TEST TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE CORRECT RECOIL SPRING WEIGHT FOR YOUR AMMUNITION: Go to the range with your pistol and a magazine that will positively lock your slide to the rear when you slowly retract the slide with the pistol empty. Load one round of the desired ammunition in the proven magazine, load the pistol and fire the single shot holding the pistol in your strong hand, but grip the pistol fairly loose. If the pistol consistently (5 to 10 shots is adequate) locks the slide to the rear, the recoil spring is not too heavy for your ammunition. A recoil spring that is 1-2# below the weight where you begin to have failures to lock open is ideal for your ammunition.

I have a EAA/Girsan MC1911S Hunter 6" in 10mm Auto that kept locking the slide open on every round with the heavy, full-powered Buffalo Bore loads. I was advised to take the factory recoil spring out and install a 20lb recoil spring. No more problems and the 20lb spring works just as well with standard loads.

This spring is a replacement, for the recoil spring that came in a kit - and was woefully underpowered, to the point where it would not even return the slide into battery.
This Wilson Combat spring, on the other hand, was "just right". The correct amount of tension, to cycle the weapon without battering the slide or frame, while using normal factory loads of various bullet types and weights.
Quality was "as expected" for Wilson Combat products: VERY high.

My kimber 10mm had issues with chambering all ammo types. After a feed ramp polish and new mags the issue persisted then I decided upping the spring weight to 20lbs and now it feeds
All FMJ and JHP.
I also changed the FLGR to a GI setup which MGW had in stock as well.
